Governor Dodge State Park
The park covers more than 5,000 acres of steep hills, bluffs and deep valleys, with two lakes and a waterfall. It is open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. year-round and a vehicle admission sticker is required. The DNR lists camping, picnicking, hiking, canoeing, biking, hunting, fishing, off-road biking, cross-country skiing and horseback riding.
Military Ridge State Trail
A 40-mile rail-trail whose western end is in Dodgeville; it runs east through Ridgeway, Barneveld, Blue Mounds, Mount Horeb, Riley, Klevenville, Verona and Fitchburg to the Southwest Madison Bike Interchange. Most of it follows the former Chicago and North Western Railway corridor and is surfaced with crushed limestone; the segment between Verona and Madison is blacktop. A state trail pass is required for bicycling and in-line skating, and in winter the route carries snowmobilers and cross-country skiers.
Iowa County Courthouse
A two-story Greek Revival building put up in 1859, with exterior walls of buff-colored local Galena limestone and stonework by workmen newly arrived from Cornwall. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972 and is the oldest courthouse still in use in Wisconsin, housing the circuit court and Iowa County government offices. Its parking lot is the venue for the Crusin' the Courthouse car night and for Trunk or Treat in October.
House on the Rock
Alex Jordan Jr. began building on the rock around 1945 and opened the site to the public in 1959; it has since grown into a series of buildings full of collections. Displays include the Streets of Yesterday, the Music of Yesterday, the Heritage of the Sea and a carousel built in 1981 with 269 animals, 182 chandeliers and over 20,000 lights. The Infinity Room, built in 1985, is a glass corridor with more than 3,000 windows that juts out 218 feet from the original house with no supports underneath.
Folklore Village
A folk arts centre whose year-round schedule includes folk school classes, barn dances, Saturday night socials and folk music and dance festivals, among them Swedish, English country dance, Cajun and Christmas weekends. It also runs Family Thursdays, school programs and senior programs. The Aslak Lie House, a Norwegian-American log building, stands on the grounds.
Harris Park and the Ley Memorial Pavilion
The city park with softball and baseball diamonds, a basketball court, sand volleyball courts, athletic fields used for football and soccer, a paved two-mile walking path, play areas, three lighted reservable shelters, a concession stand, two outdoor restrooms, picnic tables and grills. The Ley Memorial Pavilion on the same grounds is a 27,000-square- foot multi-purpose building used for winter hockey, auctions, flea markets, community events and wedding receptions. From 1 October to 14 April it is home to the Ice Wolves Youth Hockey League, which offers open ice skating to the public through its season.

Dodgeville is served by the Dodgeville School District, which takes students from Dodgeville and the village of Ridgeway. It runs three schools: one elementary school, one middle school and one high school. A second elementary building in Ridgeway was consolidated into Dodgeville Elementary and closed at the end of the 2020 school year. Grade spans and enrollment are worth confirming with the district office, since published sources disagree. source
Upland Hills Health is in Dodgeville itself, at 800 Compassion Way (608-930-8000). It is a non-profit community healthcare organization run by a volunteer board of directors, made up of a 22-bed hospital, a 44-bed Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and physician clinics; any profits go back into the organization. source
Dodgeville is part of the Madison metropolitan area, and Madison is the nearest large city. US 151, US 18, Wisconsin Highway 23 and the Dodgeville Expressway all run through the city. Dodgeville is also the county seat of Iowa County, so the courthouse and county offices are in town rather than a drive away. source
The city's public transport is a shared taxi, run under an agreement between the City of Dodgeville and the ADRC of Southwest Wisconsin. It operates in the City of Dodgeville on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (608-553-0590). The fare is $2.00 for the first ride and $2.00 for the last ride, with 50 cents for each stop in between; group rates are reduced when passengers share pickup and dropoff points, and children under six ride free with an adult. The taxi is open to people of all ages and the vehicle is accessible for wheelchairs, scooters and other mobility devices. Outside those days and hours, plan on a car. source
