Devil’s Lake State Park
Wisconsin’s most-visited state park: a spring-fed lake between 500-foot quartzite bluffs, a swimming beach, and around 30 miles of trails, including segments of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail.
Circus World
The Ringling brothers wintered their circus here, and the original barns still stand. Now a Wisconsin Historical Society site with summer big-top performances and one of the largest circus collections anywhere.
International Crane Foundation
The only place in the world where you can see all fifteen species of crane. Its research and breeding programs run worldwide from this Baraboo headquarters.
Al. Ringling Theatre
A palatial 1915 playhouse on the downtown square, still running films, concerts and touring acts.
Ochsner Park & Zoo
A 26-acre park with a free walk-through zoo — around 45 animals, open since 1926 — plus playgrounds, ball fields and the Riverwalk trailhead.
Baraboo Riverwalk
A paved trail along the river between Ochsner Park and the Maxwell-Potter Conservancy, level enough for strollers and bikes.
Dr. Evermor's Sculpture Park
Home to the Forevertron, the largest scrap-metal sculpture in the world: 50 feet tall, 120 feet wide and 300 tons, built by retired industrial wrecker Tom Every under his “Dr. Evermor” persona from parts that include two 1880s Thomas Edison dynamos and the decontamination chamber from the Apollo 11 spacecraft. Dozens of smaller sculptures from scrap surround it. Open Thursday through Monday, closed in winter.

The School District of Baraboo runs five elementary schools — Al Behrman, East, Gordon L. Wilson, North Freedom and West — plus Jack Young Middle School and Baraboo High School, and the Baraboo Early Learning Cooperative for pre-school programs. One elementary school sits in the neighbouring village of North Freedom, so the district reaches past the city limits. source
Yes — SSM Health St. Clare Hospital at 707 14th Street, with an emergency room open 24 hours and staffed by board-certified emergency physicians. It also has labour and delivery suites, surgery, cancer care, orthopaedics, paediatrics and rehabilitation, so routine care does not mean a drive to Madison. source
The City of Baraboo puts the distance at about 40 miles north-west of Madison and 12 miles west of I-90/94. UW–Madison, which runs a physician residency at the Baraboo hospital, describes the town as 45 minutes north of the city. source
